Will of Charles Sinclair


In the Name of God amen, I Charles Sinkler of the County of Orange and province of North Carolina. (Farmer) being very sick and weak of body but of perfect mind sound memory, Thanks be given to God.  Calling to mind the mortality to die and after death to come to judgment.   Do make and ordain this last will and testament, that is to say that principally and first of all, I give and recommend my soul until the hands of the Almighty God, that gave it me and my body.  I recommend unto the Earth to be buried in a decent manner at the discretion of my Executor.  Nothing doubting but that at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the might Power of God,  and as trusting such worldly estate,  wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life,  I give divise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.   First I give and bequeath a certain tract or parcel of land lying in Augusta County in Virginia or being situated on the South Fork of the Holston River - otherwise called Indian River, containing nine hundred and sixty acres to be equally divided among all my children being seven in number and if they cannot agree amongst themselves to be divided by lots and if any of them should die before they come of age to inherit land their part to be equally divided among the living.   Also, I leave to Ann Sinkler my beloved wife,  a certain improvement or tract of land lying in the County and Colony of,  aforesaid lying and being situated on Reed Creek, a branch of New River which I allow to be pattoned by my Executors out of my personal estate for the use and support of my wife during here natural life or after her decease to descend to my youngest child then living -- I likewise leave the improvement I now live on to be sold by my executor and the money to go to my wife, for to support her and my children.  Also I give and bequeath unto my well beloved daughter, Catherine, one sorrel mair five years old.  Also I leave unto my beloved wife two work horses and what other horses and cattle she may think proper to keep for the support of her and my children and the remainder to be sold at Vended (?) and the money to go to educate the children as they grow of age as my wife thinks proper and according as she is able to spare.   I also order my beloved son Charles be put to school for two years and the cost of his schooling to be paid out of Personal Estate, the remainder of my Personal Estate as before mentioned, I leave to my beloved wife to support her and raise my children, during her natural life or widowhood and after her decease or marriage, what is left,  to be equally divided amongst all my children. I do likewise constitute make and ordain my trusty and well beloved friend John Buchanan of August County in Virginia with my beloved Wife, my Executor of this last Will and Testament to settle my affairs in that Province or Colony.  and I do also Constitute Appoint and Ordain, my trusty friend Amoss Evans with my Beloved Wife my Executor to settle my affairs in this province & I do hereby wholly Disallow revoke and disannul all and every other found testament wills and legacies bequests and Executors in any wise before named Willed and Bequested.

 

Ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have, here unto set my hand and seal this 5th day of June in the Year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and sixty six.
