Keeney files affidavit in support of Lousia Jane Meece Colyer confederate pension application. She was wife of Charles Granade Colyer. James Wesley Colyer was long time pastor at Clay Hill Baptist Church. His father, Lindsey Robert Colyer, was named in the will of James Hayden Girdler as one of the trustees to build a church near Keeney cemetery on Pitman Creek. James Hayden Girdler's 2nd wife was Sarah Colyer, who was daughter of James Alexander Colyer. Lindsey and Sarah were brother/sister. See the 1896 document deed from R.S. Keeney where he transfers the land upon which to build the church. the 1896 deed is linked to Lindsey Colyer, James Wesley Colyer, Joel Hayden Girdler, Sarah Colyer etc.

  
  

  Documents		1886 Ruth Ky Warren Store ledger WARNING large 60 meg file: requires high speed: This ledger of the general store at what is now known as Ruth Ky was found in ceiling of old log home renovation 2012. The log house built by Henry Wagner in 1805, purchased by John Colyer 1842, then purchased by Andrew Warren 1865. Andrew's son, Mathew(born 1859), evidently ran store across the road from the house. The store later became in 1888 the first post office in the community at current day hwy 192 at Pitman Creek in Somerset Ky. The first post office in 1888 known as Juno....later became the post office/store was reopened by Rufe Ashurst in 1896 and he named it for his daughter Ruth Ky. Many area family names in ledger: Colyer, Warren, Richardson, Meece, Botkin, Allen, Sword. The first record I have found of Rufe Ashurst in the Pitman creek area was in 1893, he purchases the Alexander Colyer coal mine on Clay Hill Road from Alex's estate auction in 1893.

  		1896 deed from Richmond Sharp Keeney to Clay Hill Church Here R.S. Keeney transfers the original land for Clay Hill Church. This combined with the Henry and Samantha Warren photo document gives some of the origins of Clay Hill Church. And the Joel Hayden Girdler lastwill that gave money to build the church. The will appointed Joel Girdler's oldest sons along with Lindsey Robert Colyer and Walter Reynolds (Colyer) as trustees to build the church. Walter Reynolds was son of Mary Polly Colyer(daughter of James Alexander Colyer). Mary Polly Colyer was sister to Lindsey Robert Colyer.

  Pastor of Clay Hill Baptist church founded 1895 Rev. and Mrs. Wesley Colyer spent Tuesday and Wednesday at HowardBotkin's --Jan 7, 1921 Somerset Journal Per interview of Verda Mae Hines Hughes 08/01/2016 (born 1924) who was born in White Lilly and has lived at Strawberry & Clay Hill Rd since 1946, she remembers Wes Colyer who the preacher at Clay Hill. James Wesley Colyer married is 2nd cousin Mary Nunnelley. John Colyer born 1781 was both of their great-grandfather. Dr. John W. Pierce 9402 Discovery Drive West Indianapolis, IN 46250 writes in March 2004 Kentucky Explorer magazine: Attending church regularly was an important part of the life of my parents and their children. We were members of the White Oak Baptist Church, where the Pierce family were members. For many years the pastor ofthe churchwas Rev.
