| Documents | 1886 Ruth Ky Warren Store ledger WARNING large 60 meg file: requires high speed: This ledger of the general store at what is now known as Ruth Ky was found in ceiling of old log home renovation 2012. The log house built by Henry Wagner in 1805, purchased by John Colyer 1842, then purchased by Andrew Warren 1865. Andrew's son, Mathew(born 1859), evidently ran store across the road from the house. The store later became in 1888 the first post office in the community at current day hwy 192 at Pitman Creek in Somerset Ky. The first post office in 1888 known as Juno....later became the post office/store was reopened by Rufe Ashurst in 1896 and he named it for his daughter Ruth Ky. Many area family names in ledger: Colyer, Warren, Richardson, Meece, Botkin, Allen, Sword. The first record I have found of Rufe Ashurst in the Pitman creek area was in 1893, he purchases the Alexander Colyer coal mine on Clay Hill Road from Alex's estate auction in 1893. | |

| 1880 Census: Charles Granade Colyer family note that son Cyrenius is listed as age 18 so born 1861, not 1865. Daughter Sarah born 1865 and thus age 14. Note that neighbor is older brother CW Colyer (Cyrenius Wait Colyer) who sold land to wife Louisa Jane of Charles Granade, in 1866....while per family tradition, Granade was living managing hotel in Nashville TN. | ||
| 1850 Pulaski KY lawsuit brothers Cyrenius and Bluford vs. John Jr. May indicate conflict and why John Jr. moved and settled in Bronston Ky away from Jugornot area. | ||
| 1867 deed From Cyrenius W Colyer to Doolin This shows that John Colyer was in partnership with Doolin in coal mines. Here, after John's death, his son, Cyrenius, sells his 1/17 inherited interest in one-half of the coal mines back to Doolin. | ||
| 1881 Pulaski court: Cyrenius Wait Colyer Esq, executor Lydia Colyer, sued. Here Cyrenius' brother Charles Granade Colyer on behalf of heirs, sues his brother who is executor of their mother's (Lydia) estate to say that Cyrenius owes the estate for 2 notes where he borrowed money from Lydia. Court agrees and says beneficiaries need to be determined to see who gets the money. | ||
| 1881 Pulaski County KY court: John Colyer heirs re property tax Here, apparently, Pulaski County must have assessed back property tax against the heirs of John Colyer concerning the 200 acre farm on Pitman Creek that was sold to Andrew Warren in 1865. It appears the assessment did not pro-rate the taxes in the year of sale, so recovery is awarded to heirs from purchaser Andrew Warren. Charles Granade Colyer took the lead in this case evidently. | ||
| 1860 Pulaski County KY census Showing John Meece next to John Hunt and near William Richardson and Cyrenius Colyer. John Hunt farm about half way back Blaze Valley Rd in Somerset. William Richardson based on Pulaski County Road orders, thought to be near Whitley Rd (hwy 192) and Blaze Valley. It appears that John Meece lived in Blaze Valley. |
