Notes |
- Per Mr. Lawrence Richardson area of St Clair Bottom VA historian, Alexander and his mother Ann, moved north to Wythe county VA after Charles St. Clair's death in about 1768 to other property Charles owned there and at this location is where Ann St. Clair eventually died.
Per Patricia Ann Jonnes 2006, By 1804 Alexander was in Wayne Co, Kentucky where he initiated a court action on behalf of "Nancy Sinclair of Montgomery Co, VA" . . . This could have involved his deceased mother's estate. (R.L.Curtis note: I went to the Wayne county Ky courthouse 10/26/15 and read all the court order records for 1804 and did not find anything mentioning a Sinclair/St. Clair. Most records concerned land grants, and county officer pay/taxes mentioning the first Clerk Micah Taul)
- Rcurtis note: I have discovered possibly two other Alexander Sinclair (St. Clair) in the area of Virginia, Ky, etc during pioneer days. One was son of Wayman Sinclair and possibly another was documented in Chaulkleys VA abstracts that settled in Staunton VA and became a legislator. I suspect the Logan's fort Alexander and the one who received these grants was one of these and not Alexander, the son of Charles St. Clair. The confirmed brief stay in Wayne County Ky shows our Alexander St. Clair with little to no property. His father Charles, had 1000 acres in St. Clair Bottom received for being expedition scout, but was described as a long-hunter and laborer on early expeditions.

An article about Alexander Sinclair, who was a member of Captain Benjamin Logan's company Militia at Logan's station in 1779 received land and surveyed in it what is now Garrard County, sold smaller part of his 700 acres on sugar Creek to a number of early settlers...these included Luke Adams, Arabia Brown, David Comley, John Harris and William Poe among others.
- Jean Grigsby reported that Alexander Sinclair appears on 1790 census with apparent brothers in Pendleton County South Carolina.
Jean Grigsby thinks Alexander, Charles, Robert in 1790 census for Pendleton Dist, SC, may be the sons of Charles Sr. Charles (Jr) will is dated 24 Jun 1794, Pendleton Dist, SC (Will Book C, p. 22). This Charles Sinkler family moved to Warren KY by 1810.
